Here are my TV film picks for the festive period if you want to plan ahead and set the DVR or catchup on BBC iPlayer.

A few quick observations:

• This Christmas is the last before analogue switch off in April 2012.
• A lot of people can now watch HD films on terrestrial Freeview for the first time.
• The films section on BBC iPlayer is a treasure trove of content this time of year.
• There are some really interesting late night horror films on BBC2.
• BBC Four are showing some religious epics of the 1950s and a documentary on how they were made.
