Ninja Assassin<\/a><\/strong> (Warner Bros.): A\u00a0martial arts action-adventure film directed by\u00a0James McTeigue<\/a> and starring\u00a0Rain<\/a> as one of the world’s deadliest\u00a0Special Forces<\/a> Ninja<\/a> assassins<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The film was produced by\u00a0Joel Silver<\/a> and the\u00a0Wachowski brothers<\/a> and judging from the negative reviews doesn’t appear to be in any danger of winning awards or reshaping the landscape of 21st century cinema. [Nationwide \/18]<\/p>\n

Armored<\/a><\/strong> (Sony): An action film about a guard for an armored truck company who is coerced by his veteran coworkers to steal a truck containing $10 million.<\/p>\n

Directed by\u00a0Nimr\u00f3d Antal<\/a>, it stars\u00a0Matt Dillon<\/a>,\u00a0Jean Reno<\/a> and\u00a0Laurence Fishburne<\/a> and it would appear to be a genre film that Sony hope will appeal to undemanding audiences.\u00a0[Nationwide \/\u00a012A]<\/p>\n

Brothers<\/a><\/strong> (Lionsgate UK): An drama starring\u00a0Tobey Maguire<\/a> and\u00a0Jake Gyllenhaal<\/a> as two brothers involved in a love triangle\u00a0with one of their wives (Natalie Portman<\/a>) after one of them returns from military service in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n

Directed by\u00a0Jim Sheridan<\/a>, the film is based on\u00a0Susanne Bier<\/a>‘s 2004 Danish film\u00a0Brothers<\/a> (Br\u00f8dre<\/em>) which takes place in\u00a0Afghanistan<\/a> and\u00a0Denmark<\/a>. Both films take inspiration from\u00a0Homer<\/a>‘s epic poem\u00a0The Odyssey<\/a><\/em>.\u00a0[Nationwide \/\u00a015]<\/p>\n

The Boys Are Back<\/a><\/strong> (Walt Disney): \u00a0An adaptation of Simon Carr’s serio-comic novel “The Boys Are Back in Town” which sees Clive Owen<\/a> play a sports writer becomes a single parent in tragic circumstances while struggling to raise his two sons.<\/p>\n

Directed by Scott Hicks, tepid word of mouth mean that this is likely to come and go at cinemas very quickly. [Vue West End & Nationwide]<\/p>\n

Toy Story 2 3D<\/a><\/strong> (Walt Disney): A reissues in 3D for the 2000 Pixar sequel to Toy Story, in anticipation of the third part which is out this summer. [Nationwide\u00a0\/ U]<\/p>\n

A Prophet<\/a><\/strong> (Optimum): A scintillating French crime drama directed by\u00a0Jacques Audiard<\/a> about a young Arab prisoner (Tahar Rahim<\/a>) who gradually learns how power inside works thanks to a crime boss (Niels Arestrup<\/a>) who runs an empire from his cell.<\/p>\n

Superbly written and directed, it contains two terrific lead performances and a raft of classic scenes which linger in the memory. Since\u00a0premi\u00e8ring\u00a0at Cannes back in May it has rightly attracted a wave of critical acclaim on the festival circuit and is probably one of the best films of its kind in years.\u00a0[Curzon Soho, Odeon Covent Gdn., & Nationwide\u00a0\/ 18]<\/p>\n

Blur: No Distance Left To Run<\/a><\/strong> (Arts Alliance): A\u00a0documentary\u00a0about the\u00a0British rock band\u00a0Blur<\/a>, which follows the band during their 2009 reunion and tour, and also includes unseen archive footage and interviews.\u00a0[London & Nationwide]<\/p>\n

Burlesque Undressed<\/strong> (More2Screen): A documentary about ‘the art’ of stripping produced by its subject, Kelly Fletcher, aka Immodesty Blaize<\/a>.\u00a0[Empire Leicester Square, Odeon Covent Garden & Key Cities \/\u00a015]<\/p>\n

Veer<\/a><\/strong> (Eros): A Bollywood epic\u00a0directed by\u00a0Anil Sharma<\/a>,\u00a0set in 1825 when the\u00a0British<\/a> were ruling\u00a0India<\/a>, starring\u00a0Salman Khan<\/a>,\u00a0Mithun Chakraborty<\/a>,\u00a0Sohail Khan<\/a> and\u00a0Jackie Shroff<\/a>.\u00a0[C\u2019Worlds Feltham, Ilford, Shaftesbury Ave., Odeon G\u2019wich & Nationwide]<\/p>\n
