<\/a><\/p>\n [ad]<\/p>\n NATIONAL RELEASES<\/strong><\/p>\n District 9<\/a><\/strong> (Sony Pictures): One of the surprise films of the summer is this sci-fi action film directed by Neil Blomkamp<\/a> and produced by Peter Jackson<\/a>. The premise is Independence Day<\/a> in Johannesburg<\/a> with a twist – here the government and military are\u00a0oppressing\u00a0visiting aliens (dubbed ‘prawns’) who are herded into refugee camps.<\/p>\n Based on a short film Blomkamp had previously made, it starts as a mock-documentary following a government supervisor (Sharlto Copley<\/a>) as he tries to move the aliens out of their camps but soon turns into something else after things take an unexpected turn.<\/p>\n
