Marley And Me<\/a><\/strong> (20th Century Fox):\u00a0Owen Wilson<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Jennifer Aniston<\/a> star as two journalists who adopt a dog named Marley in this story adapted from the bestselling memoir of the same name<\/a>\u00a0by\u00a0John Grogan<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Directed by\u00a0David Frankel<\/a>, it did stellar business at the US box office around Christmas and looks set to have similar success over here, powered by dog lovers and less discerning audiences.\u00a0[Vue West End & Nationwide \/ Cert PG]<\/p>\n

Bronson<\/a><\/strong> (Vertigo Films): A biopic of the criminal Charles Bronson<\/a> – one Britain’s most notorious prisoners. Tom Hardy<\/a> takes on the central role and it is directed by\u00a0Nicolas Winding Refn<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Vertigo will be hoping for good word of mouth, mostly based around Hardy’s acclaimed performance<\/a>, although the 18 certificate may limit its overall box office.\u00a0[<\/span>C’World Haymarket, Empire Leicester Sq., Odeon Covent Gdn & Nationwide \/ Cert\u00a018]<\/p>\n

The Burning Plain<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0(Paramount):\u00a0\u00a0The latest film from writer\u00a0Guillermo Arriaga<\/span><\/a><\/strong>\u00a0sees him make his debut behind the camera. <\/span><\/p>\n

Like his previous work (Amores Perros<\/a>,\u00a021 Grams<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Babel<\/a>) this has a fractured narrative and\u00a0stars\u00a0Charlize Theron<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Kim Basinger<\/a>\u00a0as two women in different parts of America struggling to deal with their lives.<\/span><\/p>\n

It also stars\u00a0Danny Pino<\/a>,\u00a0Jennifer Lawrence<\/a>,\u00a0Joaquim de Almeida<\/a>,\u00a0J.D. Pardo<\/a>,\u00a0Robin Tunney<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Brett Cullen<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Although some critics are going to take the predictable ‘why can’t he tell a straight story’ line, it is actually an involving and well crafted tale with some fine visuals from DP’s\u00a0Robert Elswit<\/a>\u00a0and John Toll<\/a>.\u00a0[<\/span>Key Cities \/ Cert\u00a015]<\/p>\n

Hush<\/a><\/strong> (Optimum Releasing): A low budget British horror film about a\u00a0young couple on a motorway journey are drawn into a game of cat and mouse with a truck driver following a near accident. Written and directed by\u00a0Mark Tonderai<\/a>.\u00a0[<\/span>C’Worlds Enfield, Shaftesbury Ave., Wandsworth & Nationwide \/ Cert 15]<\/span><\/p>\n

Alone<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0aka Issiz Adam (Most Production): A\u00a0Turkish\u00a0film written and directed by\u00a0\u00c7a\u011fan Irmak<\/a>\u00a0which explores\u00a0the lives of two people who live in\u00a0Istanbul<\/a>\u00a0who happen to meet each other in a second-hand book shop.\u00a0[<\/span>Odeons Greenwich, Holloway Rd, Lee Valley & Panton St. Only \/ Cert 15]<\/p>\n

In The City Of Sylvia<\/a><\/strong> (Axiom Films): A 2007 Spanish film – almost\u00a0entirely devoid of\u00a0dialogue<\/a>\u00a0– which follows a young man (credited only as ‘El’) as he scours suburban\u00a0Strasbourg<\/a>\u00a0in search of Sylvia, a woman he asked for directions in a bar several years before.<\/p>\n

Directed by\u00a0Jos\u00e9 Luis Guer\u00edn<\/a>\u00a0and starring\u00a0Xavier Lafitte<\/a>\u00a0and Pilar L\u00f3pez de Ayala<\/a>. [<\/span>BFI Southbank, Curzon Soho & Key Cities \/ Cert PG]<\/span><\/p>\n

Not Quite Hollywood<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(Optimum Releasing): A\u00a0new documentary exploring the world of Australian exploitation cinema that began in the early 1970s.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Directed by\u00a0Mark Hartley<\/span><\/strong><\/a>\u00a0it shows how a new generation of maverick filmmakers capitalised on the relaxing of censorship laws to create wilder films on smaller budgets.\u00a0[<\/span>ICA Cinema only \/ Cert 18]<\/span><\/p>\n
