The International<\/a><\/strong> (Sony Pictures): A timely release for this thriller about an Interpol agent (<\/span>Clive\u00a0Owen) <\/span>who tries to\u00a0expose a high-profile financial institution’s role in an international arms dealing ring.<\/span>\u00a0It co-stars Naomi Watts and is directed by Tom Twyker<\/a> (who made Run Lola Run<\/a>) and should do reasonable box office despite middling US reviews<\/a> and box office<\/a>. \u00a0[Cert 15 \/\u00a0Nationwide]<\/p>\n

New In Town<\/a><\/strong> (Entertainment): A fish-out-of-water comedy about Miami business woman\u00a0(Ren\u00e9e Zellweger<\/a>) sent to a remote Minnesota town to oversee the restructuring of a blue collar manufacturing plant. It co-stars\u00a0Harry Connick Jr<\/a>a and\u00a0J.K. Simmons<\/a>\u00a0and is directed by Jonas Elmer<\/a>. Entertainment will be hoping female audiences in the UK will be more responsive to this film than their US counterparts were<\/a>. [Cert\u00a012A \/\u00a0<\/span>Nationwide]<\/p>\n

The Unborn<\/a><\/strong> (Universal): A horror\u00a0written and directed by\u00a0David S. Goyer<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>which\u00a0stars\u00a0Gary Oldman<\/a>\u00a0as a spiritual advisor to a young girl (Odette Yustman<\/a>) who is tormented by a\u00a0dybbuk<\/a>.<\/span>\u00a0Universal will be hoping horror fans will give it a respectable gross despite the bad reviews<\/a> and lack of discernible buzz.\u00a0<\/span>[Cert\u00a015<\/span>\u00a0\/\u00a0Vue West End & Nationwide]<\/p>\n

The Class<\/a><\/strong> (Artificial Eye): The winner of the Palme D’Or at Cannes earlier this year<\/a> is\u00a0based on the\u00a02006 novel<\/a>\u00a0by\u00a0Fran\u00e7ois B\u00e9gaudeau<\/a>, which was a\u00a0semi-autobiographical<\/a>\u00a0account of B\u00e9gaudeau’s experiences as a\u00a0literature<\/a>\u00a0teacher in an\u00a0inner city<\/a>\u00a0middle school in\u00a0Paris<\/a>. Directed by\u00a0Laurent Cantet<\/a>, it skilfully avoids cliche and is a a refreshingly humane and absorbing drama. Franklyn<\/a><\/strong> (Contender Films): A fantasy film split between the parallel realities of contemporary London and the futuristic metropolis of ‘Meanwhile City’, it\u00a0follows the tales of four characters: Jonathan Preest (Ryan Phillippe<\/a>), a masked vigilante who won’t rest until he finds his nemesis; Emilia (Eva Green<\/a>), a troubled young art student; Milo (Sam Riley<\/a>), a heartbroken twentysomething and Peter (Bernard Hill<\/a>), is a man steeped in religion, searching for his missing son amongst London’s homeless. Gun Crazy<\/a><\/strong> (bfi Distribution): A reissue for this 1950\u00a0film noir<\/a><\/em>\u00a0starring\u00a0Peggy Cummins<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0John Dall<\/a>\u00a0in a story about the crime-spree of a gun-toting husband and wife.<\/span>\u00a0Directed by\u00a0Joseph H. H. Lawrence<\/a>‘s novel\u00a0Lady Chatterley’s Lover<\/a><\/em>, and later was the American publisher of\u00a0Henry Miller<\/a>‘s controversial novel\u00a0Tropic of Cancer<\/a><\/em>.\u00a0 <\/span>[ICA Cinema]<\/p>\n
