After building a robotic suit in order to escape he decides to protect the world as Iron Man.\u00a0Directed by <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jon_Favreau\">Jon Favreau<\/a> and co-starring Terence Howard and Gwyneth Paltrow it impressed a lot of critics and audiences with its combination of special effects, witty dialogue and fine performances.<\/p>\n<p>The 2 Disc edition is the one to go for as it comes with a lot of decent extras, which include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I Am Iron Man &#8211; seven-part in-depth look at the making of the film.<\/li>\n<li>The Invincible Iron Man &#8211; extensive explorations of the origins of the character in a six-part featurette.<\/li>\n<li>Wired: The Visual Effects of Iron Man.<\/li>\n<li>The Actor\u2019s Process (scene rehearsal with cast).<\/li>\n<li>Robert Downey Jr. Screen Test.<\/li>\n<li>Still Galleries<\/li>\n<li>The Onion: &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.filmdetail.com\/archives\/2008\/04\/15\/iron-man-onion-news-spoof\/\">Wildly Popular Iron Man Trailer to be Adapted into Full Length Film<\/a>&#8216;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This is the first feature film Marvel funded themselves (Paramount were just the distributor) and although The Dark Knight stole a bit of its thunder, this was one of the best comic book adaptations for quite some time. After all his off-screen problems Downey Jnr proved he could shine as a leading man in this kind of film and Favreau got the blend of character, action and humour just right. Another aspect worth praising is the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Iron_Man_film#Effects\">terrific SFX work<\/a> ILM and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.filmdetail.com\/archives\/2008\/06\/17\/a-tribute-to-stan-winston\/\">the late Stan Winston<\/a> achieved in creating the Iron Man suit. [Cert 12]<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/gp\/product\/B001CB42BY?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=filmdetail-21&amp;linkCode=xm2&amp;camp=1634&amp;creativeASIN=B001CB42BY\">Charley Varrick<\/a><\/strong><span> <\/span>(Freemantle):\u00a0Freemantle Home Entertainment\u00a0have two batches of films arriving on UK Region 2 DVD this month. Although most of them have been out here before on various labels, a few others are making their UK DVD debuts. This is\u00a0a 1973\u00a0crime drama directed by\u00a0<a title=\"Don Siegel\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Don_Siegel\">Don Siegel<\/a>\u00a0and starring\u00a0<a title=\"Walter Matthau\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Walter_Matthau\">Walter Matthau<\/a>\u00a0in the title role. It came two years after Siegel&#8217;s Dirty Harry and also stars two actors from that film:\u00a0<a title=\"Andrew Robinson\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Andrew_Robinson\">Andrew Robinson<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a title=\"John Vernon\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/John_Vernon\">John Vernon<\/a>. Based on the novel &#8216;The Looters&#8217;\u00a0by\u00a0<a title=\"John H. Reese\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/John_H._Reese\">John H. Reese<\/a>\u00a0it is an enjoyable slice of 70s crime movie. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/gp\/product\/B001EBO95Q?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=filmdetail-21&amp;linkCode=xm2&amp;camp=1634&amp;creativeASIN=B001EBO95Q\">Wim Wenders\u2019 Documentaries<\/a><\/strong> (Axiom Films):\u00a0This five-disc set brings together five of the director\u2019s documentaries on the nature of film and filming that cover three decades of his career.
