Tropic Thunder<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(Paramount): With\u00a0an impressive US gross<\/a>\u00a0already in the bag, a\u00a0high profile London premiere this week<\/a>\u00a0and a distinct lack of direct competition, Paramount have every right to be bullish about this Hollywood satire taking the UK Number 1 slot.\u00a0Ben Stiller<\/a>\u00a0directs and stars alongside\u00a0Jack Black<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Robert\u00a0Downey\u00a0Jr.<\/a>\u00a0as a group of\u00a0prima\u00a0donna<\/a>\u00a0actors making a\u00a0Vietnam War<\/a>\u00a0film who annoy their director (Steve\u00a0Coogan<\/a>) so much that he abandons them in the jungle amidst a real war zone. Although not quite as hilarious as it might have been, there are a lot of good laughs to be had and\u00a0Downey\u00a0Jnr\u00a0is remarkable as a white method actor playing a black character. [Cert 15 \/ Nationwide]<\/p>\n

Linha\u00a0De Passe<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>(Pathe): The latest film from director\u00a0Walter\u00a0Salles<\/a>\u00a0(who’s previous films include\u00a0Central Station<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0The Motorcycle Diaries<\/a>) is the tale of\u00a0four poverty-stricken brothers who live in a\u00a0favela<\/a>\u00a0neighborhood in\u00a0S\u00e3o\u00a0Paulo<\/a>.\u00a0Although not quite as good as his previous work it is still an absorbing slice of modern Brazilian life. It premiered at Cannes back in May to\u00a0generally positive reviews<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0SandraCorveloni<\/a>\u00a0scooped\u00a0the Best Actress award<\/a>.\u00a0Pathe\u00a0will be hoping the\u00a0arthouse\u00a0crowd turn out in force for one of South\u00a0America’s best directors.\u00a0[Cert 15 \/ Key Cities]<\/p>\n

Then She Found Me<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(Chelsea Films):\u00a0Helen Hunt<\/a>\u00a0directs and stars in this tale of a\u00a0New York teacher (Hunt) who hits a midlife crisis when her husband\u00a0(Matthew Broderick<\/a>) leaves, her adoptive mother dies, her biological mother\u00a0(Bette\u00a0Midler<\/a>) turns up unexpected and she begins a relationship with the father (Colin Firth<\/a>) of one of her students. Although this low budget comedy\/drama didn’t exactly make waves at the US box office, it may hit the sweet spot for female\u00a0uadiences\u00a0who don’t want to see\u00a0Mamma\u00a0Mia for the 8thtime.
