Sight and Sound<\/a> have recently released the results of a poll of critics and filmmakers to find the greatest documentaries of all time.<\/p>\n

The Critics\u2019 Top 10 documentaries are:<\/p>\n

1. Man with a Movie Camera<\/strong>, dir. Dziga Vertov (USSR 1929)<\/p>\n

2. Shoah<\/strong>, dir. Claude Lanzmann (France 1985)<\/p>\n

3. Sans soleil<\/strong>, dir. Chris Marker (France 1982)<\/p>\n

4. Night and Fog<\/strong>, dir. Alain Resnais (France 1955)<\/p>\n

5. The Thin Blue Line<\/strong>, dir. Errol Morris (USA 1989)<\/p>\n

6. Chronicle of a Summer<\/strong>, dir. Jean Rouch & Edgar Morin (France 1961)<\/p>\n

7. Nanook of the North<\/strong>, dir. Robert Flaherty (USA 1922)<\/p>\n

8. The Gleaners and I<\/strong>, dir. Agn\u00e8s Varda (France 2000)<\/p>\n

9. Dont Look Back<\/strong>, dir. D.A. Pennebaker (USA 1967)<\/p>\n

10. Grey Gardens<\/strong>, dir. Albert and David Maysles, Ellen Hovde and Muffie Meyer (USA 1975)<\/p>\n

The poll report is released in the September edition of Sight & Sound published today, Friday 1st August.<\/p>\n
