{"id":15685,"date":"2014-02-05T00:49:59","date_gmt":"2014-02-05T00:49:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.filmdetail.com\/?p=15685"},"modified":"2014-02-05T00:51:14","modified_gmt":"2014-02-05T00:51:14","slug":"philip-seymour-hoffman-1967-2014","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.filmdetail.com\/2014\/02\/05\/philip-seymour-hoffman-1967-2014\/","title":{"rendered":"Philip Seymour Hoffman (1967-2014)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.filmdetail.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Philip-Seymour-Hoffman-in-Magnolia.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-15686\" alt=\"Philip Seymour Hoffman in Magnolia\" src=\"http:\/\/www.filmdetail.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Philip-Seymour-Hoffman-in-Magnolia.jpg\" width=\"560\" height=\"280\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The acclaimed actor passed away in New York yesterday aged 46.<\/p>\n<p>Hoffman was a true modern great, second only perhaps to Daniel Day-Lewis (but far more prolific), who made the breakthrough from a great supporting actor to lead since the late 1990s.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-dWaT1xjPPk\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>He won the Oscar for Best Actor with his remarkable turn as Truman Capote in Capote (2005) and was also nominated three times for Best Supporting Actor, as well as receiving three Tony nominations for his work on stage.<\/p>\n<p>Although he cropped up in minor roles in movies during the 1990s, such as Scent of a Woman (1992) and Twister (1996), he really started to come into his own with memorable roles in Happiness (1998) and The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999).<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/7k0-pSCwcx4\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>But it was his collaborations with writer-director Paul Thomas Anderson that brought him to a wider audience and linger in the memory: the shy boom operator in Boogie Nights (1997);
