{"id":12951,"date":"2011-09-18T23:19:44","date_gmt":"2011-09-18T22:19:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.filmdetail.com\/?p=12951"},"modified":"2011-09-18T23:19:44","modified_gmt":"2011-09-18T22:19:44","slug":"flying-over-planet-earth-orbit-international-space-station","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.filmdetail.com\/2011\/09\/18\/flying-over-planet-earth-orbit-international-space-station\/","title":{"rendered":"Flying Over Planet Earth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.filmdetail.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/Earth-filmed-from-the-International-Space-Station.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-12952\" title=\"Earth filmed from the International Space Station\" src=\"http:\/\/www.filmdetail.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/Earth-filmed-from-the-International-Space-Station.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"280\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Have you ever wanted to see what Earth looks like from orbit?<\/p>\n<p>Science educator <a href=\"http:\/\/infinity-imagined.tumblr.com\/\">James Drake<\/a> created this time-lapse video using still images taken from the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/International_Space_Station\">International Space Station<\/a> as it orbited the planet at night.<\/p>\n<p>The images were taken as it flew over the Americas and the video was made from 600 photos <a href=\"http:\/\/eol.jsc.nasa.gov\/\">available online<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/74mhQyuyELQ\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"560\" height=\"410\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>It begins over the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pacific_Ocean\">Pacific Ocean<\/a> and continues over North and South America, before entering daylight near Antarctica and even ends with a solar lens flare.<\/p>\n<p>If you look really carefully you can see such places as Vancouver, Seattle, San Fransisco, Los Angeles, the Gulf of Mexico, lightning over the Pacific, Chile, the Amazon and the\u00a0earth&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ionosphere\">ionosphere<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>N.B.
