Cameraman: The Life and Work of Jack Cardiff<\/a><\/strong> is a new documentary from director Craig McCall<\/a><\/strong> that explores the career of one of Britain’s most famous cinematographers.<\/p>\n

With a career that spanned the development of cinema, taking in silent film and the advent of Technicolor<\/a> he worked\u00a0with luminaries such as Michael Powell, John Huston, Alfred Hitchcock, Marilyn Monroe, John Wayne, Humphrey Bogart and Audrey Hepburn.<\/p>\n

On films such as A Matter of Life and Death<\/a> (1946), Black Narcissus<\/a> (1947), The Red Shoes<\/a> (1948) and\u00a0The African Queen<\/a> (1951) he established himself as a world class talent and in 2001 he became the first cinematographer to receive an honorary, Lifetime Achievement Oscar\u00ae for:<\/p>\n

\u201cExceptional contributions to the state of motion picture arts and sciences; and for outstanding services to the Academy.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Director Craig McCall has been working on this documentary for several years, interviewing Jack himself (who passed away last year) and various admirers including\u00a0Martin Scorsese<\/a>,\u00a0Thelma Schoonmaker<\/a>,\u00a0Kathleen Byron<\/a>,\u00a0Kim Hunter<\/a>,\u00a0Moira Shearer<\/a>,\u00a0John Mills<\/a>,\u00a0Lauren Bacall<\/a>,\u00a0Charlton Heston<\/a> and\u00a0Kirk Douglas<\/a>.<\/p>\n
