{"id":383,"date":"2006-11-27T15:29:58","date_gmt":"2006-11-27T15:29:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.filmdetail.com\/archives\/2006\/11\/27\/bond-ruling-the-global-box-office\/"},"modified":"2006-11-27T15:29:58","modified_gmt":"2006-11-27T15:29:58","slug":"bond-ruling-the-global-box-office","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.filmdetail.com\/2006\/11\/27\/bond-ruling-the-global-box-office\/","title":{"rendered":"Bond ruling the global box office"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Despite being pipped by the penguins of <strong>Happy Feet<\/strong> at the US box office, <strong>Casino Royale <\/strong>is still doing the business in every other country in the world.<\/p>\n<p>Nikki Finke at Deadline Hollywood Daily <a href=\"http:\/\/www.deadlinehollywooddaily.com\/casino-royale-looks-like-biggest-bond-ever-1-overseas-grossing-200-mil-worldwide\">reports<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>007\u00a0so far is doing <em>Da Vinci Code<\/em>-like\u00a0biz in all 50\u00a0countries where it&#8217;s opened No. 1 (except the U.S. where it opened No. 2).\u00a0There were 18 new international debuts for <em>Casino Royale<\/em> this week &#8211; all #1, including France, Germany, Spain and Scandinavia. So far, that&#8217;s an overseas total of $66.2 mil from this weekend&#8217;s haul &#8212; the 6th biggest international weekend of\u00a02006.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Last week, the spy pic\u00a0was #1 in all 27 countries where it opened, earning $42.2 mil\u00a0from the UK, Russia,\u00a0India and small territories in the Mideast and Asia. (Last week, it scored\u00a0the\u00a0#9 all-time UK opening, and the\u00a0biggest Bond opening ever in the UK by 46%.)<\/p>\n<p>Right before the debut weekend,\u00a0Sony Pictures\u00a0was lowering expectations for <em>Casino Roy<\/em>ale\u00a0in the U.S. and counting more on foreign sales.\u00a0The studio was right:\u00a0the pic now\u00a0looks like the biggest Bond ever worldwide, moving up from $82.8 mil last weekend to easily passing\u00a0$224.5 mil\u00a0this weekend (including the $128.2 mil foreign and\u00a0$94.2 mil U.S. cume) with many major foreign territories still to go, including Japan, Korea, Italy and Australia.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Meanwhile <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boxofficemojo.com\/news\/?id=2208&#038;p=.htm\">Box Office Mojo<\/a> says that even in the US it is holding strong at Number 2:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Down 24 percent, <strong>Casino Royale<\/strong> was as impressive as <strong>Happy Feet<\/strong>, holding better than James Bond&#8217;s previous Thanksgiving titles, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.boxofficemojo.com\/movies\/?id=goldeneye.htm\"><font color=\"#000080\">GoldenEye<\/font><\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.boxofficemojo.com\/movies\/?id=worldisnotenough.htm\"><font color=\"#000080\">The World Is Not Enough<\/font><\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.boxofficemojo.com\/movies\/?id=dieanotherday.htm\"><font color=\"#000080\">Die Another Day<\/font><\/a><\/strong>, which each fell over 31 percent on this weekend. <strong>Casino Royale<\/strong> captured an estimated $31 million and, with $94.2 million in 10 days, has sold nine percent more tickets than <strong>GoldenEye<\/strong>, the last Bond reboot, through the same point.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boxofficemojo.com\/movies\/?id=jamesbond21.htm\">More on Casino Royale at Box Office Mojo<\/a><br \/>\n> <a href=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/s\/ap\/20061127\/ap_en_mo\/box_office\">David Germain of the AP on this weekend at the US Box Office<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Despite being pipped by the penguins of Happy Feet at the US box office, Casino Royale is still doing the business in every other country in the world.
