{"id":341,"date":"2006-10-18T00:33:07","date_gmt":"2006-10-18T00:33:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.filmdetail.com\/archives\/2006\/10\/18\/london-film-festival-2006-preview\/"},"modified":"2006-10-18T00:52:18","modified_gmt":"2006-10-18T00:52:18","slug":"london-film-festival-2006-preview","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.filmdetail.com\/2006\/10\/18\/london-film-festival-2006-preview\/","title":{"rendered":"London Film Festival 2006 &#8211; Preview"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It might not be as big or as important as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.festival-cannes.fr\/index.php?langue=6002\">Cannes<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bell.ca\/filmfest\">Toronto<\/a> but the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lff.org.uk\">London Film Festival<\/a> starts today and I&#8217;ll be posting some updates as it goes on.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the films at the festival are likely to be contenders in the upcoming awards season so it is worth keeping an eye out for what&#8217;s going on. Plus it is held in the city where I work so it seems only natural to cover it!<br \/>\nThere&#8217;s a lot of films on but here are a select few that I&#8217;m paticularly looking forward to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lff.org.uk\/films_details.php?FilmID=1075\"><strong>The Last King of Scotland<\/strong><\/a>: Director Kevin McDonald&#8217;s feature debut with Forrest Whitaker as 70&#8217;s Ugandan dictator Idi Amin<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lff.org.uk\/films_details.php?FilmID=974\"><strong>The Caiman<\/strong><\/a>: Director Nanni Moretti&#8217;s satire on Berlusconi&#8217;s Italy<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lff.org.uk\/films_details.php?FilmID=1021\"><strong>For Your Consideration<\/strong><\/a>: The latest docu-spoof from Christopher Guest and his ensemble<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lff.org.uk\/films_details.php?FilmID=977\"><strong>Catch a Fire<\/strong><\/a>: Drama dealing with Apartheid in 1980s South Africa<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lff.org.uk\/films_details.php?FilmID=1080\"><strong>Little Children<\/strong><\/a>: Kate Winslet stars in director Todd Field&#8217;s drama set in US surburbia<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lff.org.uk\/films_details.php?FilmID=952\"><strong>Black Book<\/strong><\/a>: Paul Verhoeven makes his first European film in years with this tale of a Jewish woman separated from family during World War II<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lff.org.uk\/films_details.php?FilmID=972\"><strong>Bug<\/strong><\/a>: William Friedkin&#8217;s adaptation of Tracey Letts&#8217; off-Broadway play<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lff.org.uk\/films_details.php?FilmID=939\"><strong>Babel<\/strong><\/a>: The latest film from Mexican director Alejandro Gonzalez Innaritu which stars Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett and Gabriel Garcia Bernal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There are some that I&#8217;ve already seen (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lff.org.uk\/films_details.php?FilmID=968\"><strong>Breaking and Entering<\/strong><\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lff.org.uk\/films_details.php?FilmID=1171\"><strong>Stranger Than Fiction<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lff.org.uk\/films_details.php?FilmID=962\"><strong>Borat<\/strong><\/a>) but I&#8217;ll be posting my thoughts on those too as the festival goes on.<\/p>\n<p>If you are in London or fancy visiting to see a film then just click on the official website below which should have all the information you need.<\/p>\n<p>> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lff.org.uk\/\">Official Site for the 2006 London Film Festival<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It might not be as big or as important as Cannes or Toronto but the London Film Festival starts today and I&#8217;ll be posting some updates as it goes on.
