{"id":15044,"date":"2012-11-19T16:07:34","date_gmt":"2012-11-19T16:07:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.filmdetail.com\/?p=15044"},"modified":"2012-11-19T16:09:07","modified_gmt":"2012-11-19T16:09:07","slug":"rewind-2012","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.filmdetail.com\/2012\/11\/19\/rewind-2012\/","title":{"rendered":"Rewind 2012"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.filmdetail.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/2012-Rewind1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-15050\" title=\"2012 Rewind\" src=\"http:\/\/www.filmdetail.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/2012-Rewind1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"280\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Although there&#8217;s grumbling every year that films are getting worse, 2012 did seem to be a lean year for cinema releases and the wider industry is still struggling to readjust from the financial and technological shocks of the last four years.<\/p>\n<p>However, some notable events included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sundance-london.com\/\">Sundance Film Festival<\/a> coming to London for the first time.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cineaste.com\/articles\/from-35mm-to-dcp-a-critical-symposium-on-the-changing-face-of-motion-picture-exhibition\">continuing digital revolution<\/a>\u00a0in how films are shot and seen.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0848228\/\">The enormous financial success of the Avengers movie<\/a> (for some reason called Avengers Assemble in the UK) and certain animated films.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1446714\/\">Prometheus<\/a>\u00a0not living up to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/film\/2011\/jul\/22\/ridley-scott-comic-con-prometheus\">Comic-Con fuelled hype<\/a> of the previous summer.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2012_Aurora_shooting\">tragic shooting incident<\/a> that overshadowed the release of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Dark_Knight_Rises\">The Dark Knight Rises<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/entertainment-arts-19078948\">Vertigo supplanting Citizen Kane<\/a> in <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sight_%26_Sound#2012\">Sight and Sound&#8217;s famous poll<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>The unexpected deaths of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nora_Ephron\">Nora Ephron<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tony_Scott\">Tony Scott<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Harris_Savides\">Harris Savides<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>The Bond franchise returning with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.skyfall-movie.com\/site\/\">Skyfall<\/a> dominating the Autumn box office and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.metacritic.com\/movie\/skyfall\">pleasing the critics<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>The upcoming awards season which saw films such as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1024648\/\">Argo<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1045658\/\">Silver Linings Playbook<\/a> and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0443272\/\">Lincoln<\/a> jostling for early competition.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Among the DVD and Blu-ray releases that came out were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/ZHTvSd\">The Story of Film<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/ZHTNZl\">Chimes at Midnight<\/a><\/li>\n<li>A <a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/SRIFU9\">David Lynch Blu-ray boxset<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/MyfLWP\">The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie<\/a> (and other notable re-releases from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.studiocanal.co.uk\/Classics\">StudioCanal<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/SRIQid\">Jaws<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/O9pino\">Lawrence of Arabia<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/WbNnx7\">Shut Up and Play the Hits<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/WbNpVJ\">E.T.
