this was the pre-<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Avid_Technology\">Avid<\/a> days of the late 1980s when he was using <a href=\"http:\/\/www.johnbabinec.com\/Montageinfo.html\">Montage<\/a> to edit <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Full_Metal_Jacket\">Full Metal Jacket<\/a> (1987)<\/li>\n<li>How Belgian director <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0478176\/\">Harry K\u00fcmel<\/a>, who made <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Daughters_of_Darkness\">Daughters of Darkness<\/a> (1971), met Kubrick and found him to be charming and open about the filmmaking process<\/li>\n<li>Actress <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Johanna_ter_Steege\">Johanna ter Steege<\/a> describes Kubrick&#8217;s pre-production work on his abandoned adaptation of Louis Begley&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wartime_Lies\">Wartime Lies<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Malcolm McDowell at the Venice Film Festival in 1997 on how Kubrick encouraged <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Steven_Berkoff\">Steven Berkoff<\/a> to spit all over him on <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikiquote.org\/wiki\/A_Clockwork_Orange_(film)\">A Clockwork Orange<\/a> (1971)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you watch the documentaries <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Stanley_Kubrick:_A_Life_in_Pictures\">Stanley Kubrick: A Life in Pictures<\/a> (2001) on the most recent <a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/stNfw8\">DVD<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/sh6n4K\">Blu-ray<\/a> box sets of Kubrick&#8217;s work and Jon Ronson&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Stanley_Kubrick's_Boxes\">Stanley Kubrick&#8217;s Boxes<\/a> (2008), you&#8217;ll see a pattern emerge of great passion, technical obsession, restless curiosity and affable charm.<\/p>\n<p>I love the fact that if you went into <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ryman.co.uk\/store-finder\/branches\/branch\/?storeid=1096\">the St. Albans branch<\/a> of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ryman\">Ryman<\/a>&#8216;s stationary store sometime in the 1990s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.saulwordsworth.com\/blog\/?p=11\">you could bump in to one of the greatest directors<\/a> in cinema history <a href=\"http:\/\/www.qype.co.uk\/place\/383080-Ryman-The-Stationer-St-Albans\">buying some ink and pens<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&gt;
