Melancholia<\/a><\/strong> (Artificial Eye): Lars Von Trier’s latest deals with family tensions at a wedding and the\u00a0possible\u00a0collision of another planet with the Earth. Despite the Cannes controversy, this is amongst the director’s very best work and features stellar acting from Kirsten Dunst, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Kiefer Sutherland. Two-Lane Blacktop<\/a><\/strong> (Eureka): Monte Hellman’s 1971 cult road movie stars singer-songwriter\u00a0James Taylor<\/a>,\u00a0Beach Boys<\/a>\u00a0drummer\u00a0Dennis Wilson<\/a>,\u00a0Warren Oates<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Laurie Bird<\/a>. Roger Dodger<\/a><\/strong> (StudioCanal): Smart 2002 comedy about a\u00a0cynical advertising man (Campbell Scott) trying to educate his teenage nephew\u00a0(Jesse Eisenberg) in the ways of\u00a0New York\u2019s singles scene. Directed by Dylan Kidd, it didn’t do huge business but is memorable for a dynamite performance from Scott and a breakout role for Eisenberg.\u00a0[Buy it on Blu-ray<\/a>\u00a0or DVD<\/a>]<\/p>\n

Dark Star<\/a><\/strong> (Fabulous Films): John Carpenter’s ultra low budget feature debut (made whilst still in film school) is set on board a futuristic spaceship and was co-written by Dan O’Bannon, who would go on to write Alien (1979). [Buy it on Blu-ray<\/a> or DVD<\/a>]<\/p>\n
