{"id":10734,"date":"2011-02-02T23:47:37","date_gmt":"2011-02-02T23:47:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.filmdetail.com\/?p=10734"},"modified":"2011-03-29T01:23:50","modified_gmt":"2011-03-29T00:23:50","slug":"tindersticks-claire-denis-film-scores-1996-2009","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.filmdetail.com\/2011\/02\/02\/tindersticks-claire-denis-film-scores-1996-2009\/","title":{"rendered":"Tindersticks Claire Denis Film Scores 1996-2009"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10735\" title=\"Tindersticks - Claire Denis Film Scores 1996-2009\" src=\"http:\/\/www.filmdetail.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Tindersticks-Claire-Denis-Film-Scores-1996-2009.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"280\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tindersticks\">Tindersticks<\/a> have announced the release of their collection of film scores for director <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Claire_Denis\">Claire Denis<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Titled <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/cstrecords.com\/new-releasetindersticks-claire-denis-film-scores-1996-2009\/\">Claire Denis Film Scores 1995\u20132010<\/a><\/strong>, the boxed set includes the six soundtracks the band have done for the French  filmmaker over the last fifteen years.<\/p>\n<p>Ranging from <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/N%C3%A9nette_et_Boni_(soundtrack)\">Nenette et Boni<\/a> (1996) to the recently acclaimed <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/White_Material\">White Material<\/a> (2009), it also includes <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/35_rhums\">35 Shots of Rum<\/a> (2008), <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Trouble_Every_Day_(soundtrack)\">Trouble Every Day<\/a> (2001) and two solo soundtracks: Stuart Staples\u2019 score for <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/L%27intrus\">The Intruder<\/a> (2004) and Dickon Hinchliffe\u2019s score for the sensual <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vendredi_soir\">Vendredi Soir<\/a> (2002).<\/p>\n<p>To accompany the release, the band will be performing a series of concerts in cinematic seetings, bringing together the music with the evocative images that inspired it.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" class=\"youtube-player\" type=\"text\/html\" width=\"560\" height=\"345\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/eeUO_xc5_wI\" frameborder=\"0\" allowFullScreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>After performing at the San Francisco Film Festival in May 2011, the project has gathered interest and momentum and further performances are being scheduled across Europe in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>The first of these to be announced is at London\u2019s Queen Elizabeth Hall on 26th April (19:30) in conjunction with the British Film Institute, with a special screening of Nenette et Boni at the BFI Southbank on the 27th April (18:30, NFT1), followed by an onstage Q&amp;A with Claire Denis and lead singer Stuart Staples, discussing their work together and artistic affinity.<\/p>\n<p>* UPDATE 29\/03\/11: You can now listen to some of the tracks on Soundcloud.<\/p>\n<p><object height=\"265\" width=\"100%\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/player.soundcloud.com\/player.swf?url=http%3A%2F%2Fapi.soundcloud.com%2Fplaylists%2F581460\"><\/param><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\"><\/param><embed allowscriptaccess=\"always\" height=\"265\" src=\"http:\/\/player.soundcloud.com\/player.swf?url=http%3A%2F%2Fapi.soundcloud.com%2Fplaylists%2F581460\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" width=\"100%\"><\/embed><\/object>  <span><a href=\"http:\/\/soundcloud.com\/constellation-records\/sets\/cst077sampler\">TINDERSTICKS &#8211; Claire Denis Film Scores BOX SET PREVIEW<\/a> by <a href=\"http:\/\/soundcloud.com\/constellation-records\">Constellation Records<\/a><\/span> <\/p>\n<p>Staples has said in a statement:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cSometime in Paris \u201895, I thought it was La Cigalle, she says it was the Bataclan, I\u2019m not sure. That is where we met anyway, one of those places, after a concert. She was writing the screenplay for Nenette et Boni and something in our song \u2018My Sister\u2019 had clicked with her, she asked us if we would like to make the music for the film. We had film scoring pretensions, soundtrack music had always been a thing of David\u2019s from when we met way back (though we could barely play, we had dreams).<\/p>\n<p>It seemed the right next move for us, it fitted with the energy and flow of our band. We had this thing about Miles Davis\u2019 Lift to the Scaffold. Passing through Paris he stopped off at the studio with his band and recorded the score right there and then, in a day, watching the film for the first time and reacting musically. Seemed like a good place to start. I suppose the essence was there, that\u2019s how we began, and after a few fumbling months we delivered the music for Nenette et Boni, nervously. That\u2019s how it all started, maybe we just got on, had some kind of understanding; we have never really talked about it. I was told she said in an interview that we understand her films before she does; maybe that\u2019s true in some way, but I think she was just being gracious.<\/p>\n<p>Approaching each film has always asked us to step into an unknown, stretch ourselves and do things we did not think we were able. At the end we always feel changed in some way. This has fed into all our other music and is a contributing factor to why we\u2019re still struggling to catch our ideas after all these years, still frustrated and fascinated in equal measure.
