Today we look at The Diving Bell and the Butterfly<\/strong><\/a>, which was on tonight in the Time Out special screening<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\"Mathieu<\/a><\/p>\n

It is the story of Jean-Dominique Bauby<\/a>, a former French journalist and editor of Elle<\/a> magazine who was paralysed by a stroke at the age of 43.<\/p>\n

Although he could only movie his left eye, he managed to write a memoir of his condition<\/a> through a system of blinking to nurses and interpreters.<\/p>\n

Director Julian Schnabel<\/a> (who made Before Night Falls<\/a> in 2000) won Best Director at Cannes earlier this year<\/a> and it stars Mathieu Amalric<\/a>, Emmanuelle Seigner<\/a>, Marie-Jos\u00e9e Croze<\/a> and Max Von Sydow<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Interestingly, there is a big Steven Spielberg<\/a> connection with this film. Not only is it produced by Kathleen Kennedy<\/a> and shot by Janusz Kaminski<\/a> (two longtime Spielberg collaborators) but Amalric and Crozee were both in Munich<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The film opens in the UK on February 8th.<\/p>\n
