Interview: Richard Jenkins and Tom McCarthy on The Visitor

by Ambrose Heron on 03/07/2008

This week sees the UK release of The Visitor, a drama about an economics professor (Richard Jenkins) who discovers two illegal immigrants living in his New York apartment.

I recently spoke to  Richard Jenkins and writer-director Tom McCarthy about the film.

Richard is probably best known for his supporting roles in films such as Flirting With Disaster, The Man Who Wasn’t There and as the ghost of Nathaniel Fisher in HBO’s Six Feet Under.

Tom made his debut as a writer-director with The Station Agent in 2003 and has acted in films such as Good Night, and Good Luck, Flags of Our Fathers and the TV shows The Wire and Law & Order.

I saw THE VISITOR in London. Thought it was truly moving. But being a bit soppy, I really hoped for a happy ending – if only more than the hint of a long term relationship between Walter (what an actor!) and the mother. Thank you John and all concerned with this movie. Ron Moss
