Midnight Cowboy (20th Century Fox Home Ent.): One of the major films of 1969, this drama about two hustlers in New York, Joe Buck (Jon Voight) and Rico “Ratso” Rizzo (Dustin Hoffman), broke new ground in its depiction of urban life. Directed by John Schlesinger, it won Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay (by Waldo Salt) and is notable for John Barry’s score, which includes Harry Nilsson’s rendition of “Everybody’s Talkin’. Twilight Zone – The Original Series: Season 1 (Fremantle Home Entertainment): One of the most influential television series of all time gets a high-definition presentation for the first time with hours of bonus features. Created by Rod Sterling, it originally ran on CBS from 1959 to 1964 abd depicted stories involving strange and paranormal events. Bruce Springsteen: The Promise – The Making of ‘Darkness On The Edge of Town’ (Sony Music Entertainment): The making of Bruce Springsteen’s classic 1978 album is shown in this documentary by Thom Zinny. Including archive footage from the original studio sessions, it also features interviews with Springsteen, E Street Band members, manager Jon Landau, former-manager Mike Appel, and others involved in the making of the record. Bonus features include a concert filmed in Asbury Park, New Jersey, and an intimate question-and-answer session with fans. [Buy it on Blu-ray or DVD]
